This workbook was originally written in Spanish and used in the workshops under the same name offered by the Centre for Inner Alchemy in São Paulo and in Buenos Aires. It was converted into book form so that the general public, who may not have access to the workshop or who might be frightened by the depth and amplitude of this kind of work in group might also benefit from its teachings in privacy.

Faced with the urgent need to understand the creation of personal reality (our world) and the dynamics involved in the inverse process, when that personal reality is dispersed and redirected during the process of death, this workbook and workshop combination brings the individual face to face with himself, his subconscious drives, and his investments. The method outlined here, although apparently similar to others currently used to evoke personality changes through the writing of letters and guided introspection, is quite different. Side-by-side the psychological aspect, energies of extremely high voltage are carefully invoked and sustained during specific parts of the process to awaken higher levels of consciousness, attunement and collaboration with archangelic expression linked to initiatic forces. The primary influences noted in this work are from the Books of the Dead, Christian esoteric science and Buddhist psychology.

No distinction is made between the death of the physical body, a fact that overshadows everyone’s existence, and the death of the ego as prescribed by spiritual teaching. In death, what ceases to be is the artificially created personal identity within a context of consensual reality. Ultimate reality is something altogether different and opens the consciousness to infinite possibilities, forms, identities and alternate realities.

The individual first needs to understand his own emotive-thought projection activity as an attachment to continuity. Absolute discontinuity is required in order to gain greater (higher vantage) insight and acquire greater (stronger, finer force) potential needed to reconstruct oneself and one’s life. A switch from a form-based centralized viewpoint to a wider, embracing perspective is needed for the individual who must learn that he is the essence which inhabits myriad forms, including formless consciousness in God. This process is a prerequisite in South America for the handling of alchemical formulas and advanced workshops of multidimensionality.

The reader who wishes to individually create the environment for his own experience of ego-death may avail himself of the sequences in this book. Individually, or within the laboratory conditions of the Center, the process is delicate, serious, and not without dangers. In the opening chapters the reader stands forewarned against the projection of fantasy and illusion, the ambitiousness which drives most paranormal research, and the consequences of entering into such an experience without proper emotional stability and preparation. This is a step by step advance through the purification of the emotions which is the hallmark of esoteric practice. Correctly tapped, emotions lead to true insight into Reality. The process of Death and Rebirth refines sensitivity and refocuses intelligence so that the gap between mystical intuition and intellectual comprehension is bridged.

As a formal workshop, this process is performed over a five-day period of inner reevaluation and reformulation. Introspection is combined with emotional experience, exercises and meditations which gradually loosen the hold of the personality in favour of a flexible structure of consciousness.

The newest version of this work, begun in 2004, is called Khrysallis, and is offered to participants yearly. Level I represents the original experience of ego death, optionally followed by Level II a year later. This takes place at the Centre in Palma de Mallorca, Spain in the Fall.
